Food lovers are in for a treat as Haddington Farmers’ Market returns to Court Street on Saturday 27 June, bringing with it the very best of East Lothian’s seasonal produce and artisan products.

Summer is one of the most exciting times of year for local food, with stalls bursting with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Visitors can expect to find everything from strawberries, raspberries, cherries and gooseberries to broad beans, peas, courgettes, cucumbers and tomatoes. Fresh cauliflower, kohlrabi, lettuce, pak choi, radishes and rhubarb are also still in abundance.
A visit to the popular Phantassie stall is a must, where shoppers can pick up freshly harvested produce grown just outside East Linton. Many of the market’s producers also incorporate seasonal ingredients into their handmade foods and speciality products.
This month’s market welcomes a new producer, Janefield, who will be introducing visitors to cold-pressed camelina oil, a nutritious superfood grown on their farm near East Linton. Rich in omega-3 and boasting a distinctive nutty flavour, camelina oil is ideal for summer salads and cooking. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample the oil at the market.
Whether you’re planning a barbecue, picnic or alfresco dinner, the market offers plenty of inspiration. Stock up on locally reared meats including ribs, burgers, sausages and steaks, alongside fresh fish and vegan alternatives such as kukus and plant-based burgers. Accompaniments range from artisan breads and chutneys to fermented vegetables, while sweet treats include ice cream, tray bakes and refreshing local drinks including beer and apple juice.
Garden enthusiasts can also browse a wide selection of herbs and plants from The Plot Thickens, perfect for anyone looking to grow their own produce at home.
The community stall this month will be hosted by Blooming Haddington, the volunteer group responsible for the town’s colourful planters and hanging baskets. Recently named finalists once again in the Britain in Bloom awards, the group will be on hand to share information about their work and opportunities to get involved.
With 25 stalls showcasing local food, drink, crafts and gifts, Haddington Farmers’ Market continues to be one of East Lothian’s most popular monthly events.
