As the year ends and another begins, creating spaces that we enjoy spending time in feels more important than ever, says editor Lynn Stewart
Inspired by New York City’s neon signage, the Hello Coat Rack adds a playful note to storage in modern spaces. The wall-mounted steel rack will hold five items of clothing, but why not use it exclusively for hats and scarves, so you always know where things are for chilly winter walks? We think the yellow adds a little touch of sunshine, but it’s also available in grey.

Rather than being square cut, like traditional dining tables, this contemporary table shows a natural curve along the sides, which gives the bold style a softer feel. It will work with a variety of dining chairs, but we do like the look of it teamed with this spindle-back style.

Long winter days make us crave as much light as possible. One way to help rooms feel brighter is to use mirrors to help bounce what light is available around. In small rooms, try to hang a mirror directly across from a window, which gives the illusion of another window in the reflection and makes the room feel more spacious. We love the Art Deco vibe of this gold mirror encased in its square frame – all very Great Gatsby.

This is most certainly the season for candlelight and we couldn’t ignore these quirky candle holders shaped like leopards. Sitting upright with a tapered candle in a leafy crown, these are fantastic as part of a glam table setting or look equally good perched on a mantel. Fun stuff to lighten winter evenings.

With a further nod to the animal kingdom, this gorgeous red fox set against a forest-green background caught our attention. Beautiful colouring for wintry schemes, a pair of these will make a real statement and instantly update sofas, chairs or beds. We can see this fellow happily settled up in both country and urban homes.

We love a console table; from industrial styles through to country charmers, there’s something about a handy console that adds a focal point to a drab hallway. And you won’t get much more of an attention grabber than this gorgeous gold console. With moulded flowers and a slim, gold base teamed with a glass top, this will brighten up any space you care to sit it in.
