Archerfield Walled Garden is a vibrant destination in the heart of East Lothian.
Based on the leafy Archerfield Estate you will find lots to explore behind the walls and beyond.
Recently refurbished and with an all new Garden Shop, it’s a must visit this summer!
Indoors, you’ll find a warm and welcoming space which encompasses the Food Market, Garden Café & Shop.
The Garden Shop is a great source of inspiration for garden enthusiasts and newbies alike. With stunning displays and an abundance of plants, pots, tools and more, you can find everything you need to complete a seasonal update or bigger makeover in your garden. Being sustainable is a key focus at Archerfield Walled Garden and the only compost you will find here is peat-free. In addition, all feeds & fertilisers are organic and vegan friendly. They are also the only local stockists of renowned garden tool brand Niwaki. Find lots of outdoor living items including ever-popular egg chairs, outdoor dining sets, rugs, cushions and lighting. The Shop also has a great homeware and interiors section, cards for all occasions and a children’s department featuring toys and games. With an online shop in the works, you will soon be able to buy many items online!
Pick up all of your foodie favourites from the Food Market with highlights including cheese by I.J.Mellis, award-winning ready meals by Cook Kitchen and cakes by Edinburgh institution Mimi’s Bakehouse. They also sell an array of fine wines, a sizeable range of Scottish gins and a number of non-alcoholic drinks too. And if you’re passing through while out and about, you can nip in to pick up a takeaway coffee.
The Garden Café serves a selection of breakfast and lunch options with an emphasis on offering customers seasonal dishes, using plenty of produce grown in the adjoining Gardens. A variety of delicious baked goods can be enjoyed too. Think flapjacks, Nutella donuts, lemon & poppyseed cake, plus a selection of treats from Mimi’s Bakehouse. Weather permitting, Café customers can enjoy al fresco dining in the newly renovated outdoor space which features a play park – ideal for those visiting with young children. Afternoon Tea has recently been launched and is already proving popular.
Outdoors there is plenty to see too.
The grounds themselves are a sight to behold. A walk around the pond and willow walk, with picture-perfect views to Archerfield House is the ultimate way to relax pre or post lunch. Wander further and you will meander past a number of woven willow structures, created by the in-house garden team before finally reaching the Fairy Trail – a magical free attraction for little explorers. Last year a labyrinth was created and serves to offer a space for quiet contemplation. The land surrounding the business is regeneratively farmed, allowing local wildlife to thrive.
The Gardens have an abundance of interest throughout the year and include a rose garden, perennial meadow, wildlife area, potager, cut flower beds, perennial vegetables, propagation tunnel and light & dark Borders. For a small entry fee, you will receive a season pass allowing you to visit as many times as you like across the year.
And that’s not all. The most recent addition at Archerfield Walled Garden is The Barn – an outdoor events space complete with bar, grill, tables, heaters and festoon lights. If you’re looking for a special venue to host a party, this may very well be it.
