This summer, The Scottish Gallery and Clare Blatherwick Jewellery come together to present a unique Summer Exhibition and Open Studio in the heart of North Berwick. Taking place from 31 July to 9 August 2026, during the renowned Fringe by the Sea festival, the exhibition offers visitors an inspiring opportunity to discover exceptional Scottish art, master craftsmanship and the world of fine jewellery in an intimate coastal setting.

Hosted within Clare Blatherwick’s elegant design studio on Station Hill, the exhibition brings together outstanding works by two of Britain’s most respected artists and makers, alongside an exclusive opportunity to explore Clare’s own creative world.
The Art

At the heart of the exhibition are the luminous landscape paintings of East Lothian artist Pascale Rentsch, whose expressive works beautifully capture the ever-changing light, atmosphere and colours of the local coastline and countryside. Working en plein air, Pascale paints directly within the landscape, creating paintings that evoke a powerful sense of place and movement.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Pascale on selected exhibition dates and experience a live painting demonstration on North Berwick’s beach, offering a fascinating insight into her creative process. Artist appearance dates will be announced shortly.
The Jewellery
The exhibition also showcases jewellery by Dr Malcolm Appleby MBE FRSE, internationally recognised as one of Britain’s finest engravers, silversmiths and jewellers. Celebrating more than five decades of extraordinary craftsmanship, Malcolm’s work is admired for its intricate engraving, originality and deep connection to the natural world, and is held in prestigious public and private collections around the globe.

Clare Blatherwick’s Open Studio
Throughout the exhibition, visitors are warmly invited into Clare Blatherwick’s working studio to discover the artistry behind bespoke jewellery design and remodelling.
With more than 25 years’ experience—from London’s Hatton Garden to serving as Head of Jewellery at Bonhams Scotland—Clare is recognised as one of the UK’s leading jewellery specialists. Her expertise spans bespoke commissions, jewellery remodelling, antique jewellery, exceptional gemstones and professional valuations.

Whether you’re considering transforming inherited jewellery, commissioning a one-of-a-kind piece or simply curious about the craftsmanship behind fine jewellery, the Open Studio offers a rare opportunity to experience Clare’s creative process first-hand.
A Unique Festival Experience
Situated just moments from North Berwick railway station and only a short stroll from the High Street, the exhibition provides the perfect cultural stop during a day at Fringe by the Sea. Combining fine art, exceptional jewellery and live artist demonstrations, it promises an inspiring experience for both local visitors and those travelling to East Lothian for the festival.
