  2. Make the cake batter
Beat the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in the lemon zest and juice.
  3. Fold in the dry ingredients
Sift together the flour and baking powder and gently fold into the mixture.
  4. Add the blueberries
Toss the blueberries in the tablespoon of flour (this helps prevent sinking), then fold carefully through the batter.
  5. Bake
Spoon into the tin, smooth the top and bake for 50–55 minutes, until golden and a skewer comes out clean.
  6. Drizzle
While the cake is still warm, mix the lemon juice and caster sugar and spoon over the loaf. Leave to cool completely in the tin.
  7. Ice the cake
Mix the icing sugar with enough lemon juice to make a thick but pourable icing. Drizzle over the cooled loaf.
  8. Decorate & serve
Finish with fresh blueberries, lemon slices and a few small herb leaves if you like.
