The team behind one of Edinburgh’s favourite city centre dining spots is set to turn the page on a brand-new chapter this June, with fresh menus and creative cocktails inspired by one of literature’s most cherished tales.
Badger & Co, located on Castle Street, takes its name from Mr Badger, one of the main characters in The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame — who was born at 32 Castle Street in 1859.
Loved by generations across the world, The Wind in the Willows has been translated into more than 30 languages, including Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese. The story of Mr Badger, Mole, Ratty and the mischievous Mr Toad continues to capture imaginations worldwide.
Now, drawing on that whimsical world, Badger & Co is preparing to launch a refreshed dining experience that celebrates the best of Scotland’s local and seasonal ingredients — including elements foraged from nearby hedgerows, in a nod to the book’s countryside setting.

Heading up the kitchen is new head chef Scott Campbell, who will lead an eight-strong team in delivering bold, seasonal menus rooted in creativity and quality.

Behind the bar, mixologist Jay Brady will unveil a new cocktail list inspired by The Wind in the Willows characters and adventures.
Set within a classic Georgian townhouse, the venue offers seating for around 45 guests inside and out, alongside a dog-friendly lounge area. Private dining for up to 12 people and bespoke event bookings are also available.
Sian Thomas, General Manager at Badger & Co, said:
“As the birthplace of The Wind in the Willows author, we’re incredibly proud to be the custodians of this beautiful Castle Street venue. Since opening in 2016, Badger & Co has paid tribute to one of the story’s most iconic characters.
“We’re excited to start this next chapter with a fantastic new team and fresh, seasonal menu that celebrates the very best local produce.”
Badger & Co proudly supports 20 local hospitality jobs and continues to welcome both residents and visitors alike.
