WELLNESS AT WORK
Most of us spend a big chunk of our time in the office so it makes sense to incorporate well-being practices into the 9-5 routine. More and more employers are realising the benefits of helping their staff to look after their physical and mental health. There’s been a recent rise in corporate fitness class bookings and some large organisations even have dedicated spaces for classes or treatments. Speak to your HR department about introducing lunch-break fitness or yoga classes.

ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA
We all know that social media can have a negative impact on our mental health, and that hours spent scrolling mindlessly through social news feeds are hours wasted. A slew of new apps are now available to help you track and cut down on your social media usage. Available from Apple, Facebook and Twitter, we like the user-friendly Social Fever.

AND…BREATHE
When it comes to tackling stress, breathing properly can be one of the best ways to bring a restorative calm back into our bodies. When you breathe from your chest instead of your diaphragm, this light, shallow, sharp style of breathing can send your stress levels soaring and aggravate existing stress. Simply breathing deeply, slowly and smoothly will tackle stress on the spot. Want to know how? Look out for specialist breathing classes or ask your yoga teacher for a steer.

CREEPY CRAWLIES
It may sound pretty horrifying but insects are a great, sustainable source of protein and are a dietary staple in many cultures around the world. They’ve not been widely available in the UK until now, with Sainsbury’s recently announcing that they’ll be stocking edible crickets in 250 of their stores nationwide. Crickets contain more protein than beef, chicken and pork, and have all nine essential amino acids. They are high in fibre and vitamin B12 and are a great source of iron, calcium and Omega 3 and 6.

FORTY WINKS
We’ve been talking about ‘clean eating’ for quite some time now, but 2019 is going to be all about clean sleeping. Think smart beds which regulate your temperature and filter glasses which block out all that nasty blue light which interferes with your sleep patterns. Good sleep is absolutely fundamental to your health and practising sensible sleep hygiene can have a transformative effect.
